WHAT:        Groundbreaking Ceremony for Mary Brickell Village
Drainage Improvements, Phase II
WHO:          Mayor Tomas Regalado and Commission Vice-Chair Ken Russell
WHEN:        Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
WHERE:      SW 8th Street and SW 1st Avenue
(southwest side underneath the Metrorail Guideway System)
The pump station is a vital component to the overall drainage improvements project to help reduce and/or eliminate flooding for this area.  Construction is anticipated to commence February 2016 and the entire project should be completed in approximately 8 months, weather permitting.  T Y Lin International are our partners in designing this phase and Southeastern Engineering Contractors, Inc. will be the contractor for the project.  Design and construction costs for phase II are $3,095,555 million financed by Parking Surcharge 2007, Stormwater Utility 2008 Trust, Homeland Defense Bonds – Series 3 and Street Bonds – Series 2.
“This important project shows our commitment to a high quality infrastructure in the City.  The Pump Station and the Drainage Improvements are aimed at eliminating flooding in the area of Mary Brickell Village which many residents and tourists visit daily,” said Mayor Tomas Regalado.
“Infrastructure meant to keep the economic heart of our City running strong is always a good investment.  This drainage improvement project and pump station will be a boon to the quality of life for Brickell residents, businesses, visitors and office workers,” said Commission Vice-Chair Ken Russell.
