Gibson Park Gymnasium Grand Opening

(Miami, FL  December 8, 2015) –   The City of Miami will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony  and tour to celebrate the grand opening of the Gibson Park Gymnasium on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. “Gibson Park stands as a testament to our commitment to revitalize Overtown.  This gymnasium provides the community with a beautiful place to play and enjoy,” stated Commission Vice Chairman Keon Hardemon. The newly constructed 22,820 square foot, two story gymnasium includes an indoor basketball gym, encompassing one NBA regulation court and two high school regulation courts, a multi-use volleyball court, full kitchen, computer room, six classrooms, and an additional 35 new parking spaces. After the ribbon cutting, a three on three basketball tournament and shoot out will be hosted in the basketball area for public participation.  Sneakers are required to access the indoor basketball court.

Total construction cost for design, construction and parking improvements totaled $5.3 million comprised of $4.3 million in donations from the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency and $1 million from The Play to Win Fund at The Miami Foundation.  Recreation Design & Construction in conjunction with Stantec (formerly known as C3TS) served as the Design-Build contractors on the project.
